The Addicks Howell – Memorial Drive area is coming under unprecedented pressure from new SIX housing developments, all of which, to one degree or another, impact the already-congested intersection at Addicks Howell and Memorial.

Map showing numbers of new Multi-family Units in Memorial – Highway 6 area

The two HHA projects, (see HHA here), “Caroline at Memorial” and “Six at Memorial” (Addicks Howell) will significantly increase traffic crossings at Addicks and on Memorial, where (as recorded by TXDOT records of Peace Officers Reports) there were 620 crashes between HWY6/Addicks & Eldridge between 2015-2022, of which NINE WERE FATAL. Five of those fatalities took place in 2021 alone. The majority of those killed were pedestrians and cyclists.  Overall, the two complexes will add a major load to the already congested Energy Corridor roads and highways, which, as the fatalities demonstrate, lack adequate infrastructure even now.

The children from these two developments would be at risk of further increasing traffic fatalities as both would be required to cross Memorial Drive to walk to Wolfe Elementary.

Proposed interchange arrangement as provided by City of Houston – Public Works

An increase in traffic congestion will also continue to put strain on our already crumbling roadways. The Traffic Impact Analyses (see LINK ) are a complete nonsense and MUST be re-evaluated, as each TIA is isolated and fails to take into account the second development.

Yet another accident at the Addicks Howell – Memorial intersection, one of Fleetwood’s own…this time, an idiot southbound and turning left.

A further accident occurred on August 5th – a car going North on Addicks-Howell hit a westbound car on Memorial.

Janis Mecklenburg – September 19th, 2022

Janis has been working with City of Houston Traffic on the already dangerous situation at Addicks Howell & Memorial. Adding the Six at Memorial Development would make that junction an even more dangerous situation, for traffic and school buses. Below is the current situation and proposed plan:
